WE NEED TO CULTIVATE OUR GARDEN. Artist talk by Artem Filatov
June 24, 2022

Artist talk is available only for participants of the School for Young Artists program

Artist Artem Filatov will talk about his project The Garden Named After, created in collaboration with Alexei Korsi on the territory of the Nizhny Novgorod crematorium. This botanical garden is a space for dialogue about life and death, where visitors can dedicate a plant to a deceased loved one. The author will share his experience of implementing the project and talk about the forms of interaction between an artist and institutions, their joint work with tough topics, such as death or the events of the tragic pages of history.

Artem Filatov is an artist, curator and founder of the Tikhaya art studio in Nizhny Novgorod. Author of objects, installations and curatorial projects based on interaction with cultural landscape and history of the city of Nizhny Novgorod, including New City: Ancient street art festival (2014-2016), Going Home exhibition at the former Nizhny Novgorod Museum of Intellectuals (2017), and the Name Garden project at the Nizhny Novgorod crematorium (2019, together with Aleksey Korsi). Filatov is a two-time recipient of the Innovation Prize (Russia, 2020: New Generation category, 2018: the Best Regional Project category), winner of the Credit Suisse Cosmoscow Prize for Young Artists (Russia, 2017), and the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art’s grant program for young Russian artists (Russia, 2016).
