Alexander Ivanov will speak about intention, challenges and cases of audience engagement developed and applied by various institutions including museums, galleries, biennales and festivals. He will address the notions of knowledge, audience and community and share significant participatory art practices in Russia and abroad.
Alexander Ivanov is an educational projects curator, art manager, and researcher. He is the Head of the Perspectivy NGO’s Art Studio at the Psychoneurological Care Home #3 in Peterhof, St Peterburg, Russia. His main areas of expertise are critical pedagogy, participatory art, and institutional critique. Alexander Ivanov worked with Manifesta 10 (St Petersburg, Russia), Art Prospect International Public Art Festival (St Petersburg, Russia), Cyfest International Media Art Festival (St Petersburg, Russia), Garage Museum of Contemporary Art (Moscow, Russia), State Hermitage’s Youth Centre (St Petersburg, Russia), etc. Together with curator Joana Monbaron, he is the author of Tracings Out of Thin Air, a long-term interdisciplinary programme that addresses the issues of normalization, inclusion, and disintegration in contemporary art.
