The cultural sector is struggling to keep pace with the velocity of technological innovation, as more and more aspects of modern life become digital. Shannon will discuss how the Digital Media department at The Museum of Modern Art approaches the design and development of digital products in this complex landscape. He will present case studies that illustrate the processes and methodologies that the Digital Media team use to conceive the digital experiences that millions of visitors encounter every year.
Shannon Darrough is the Director of Digital Media at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City. He leads an award-winning team of designers, developers, and product managers who design and build many of the Museum’s public-facing technologies, including moma.org, the MoMA Audio iOS app, and the dynamic information screens that permeate the institution. Shannon joined MoMA as an interactive designer in 2003, when museums were just beginning to invest in their online presences, and has spent the last 15 years helping MoMA become a leader in the field.
The lecture is supported by the Trust for Mutual Understanding and is arranged in the Educational programme of the 3rd St Petersburg Biennale of Museum Design.
