The lecture will explode the popular myths about John Cage, about his “location on the map between the West and the East” How deep did Cage actually plunge into the eastern mindset? Were his discoveries a novelty for the Western music culture? These and many other issues will be covered in the lecture.

Musicologist and critic, PhD in Art History, Associate Professor, St. Petersburg State Conservatoire and St. Petersburg State University, Director of Musical Criticism master’s degree program at the Department of Liberal Arts and Sciences, St. Petersburg State University; columnist in the Afisha magazine; author of the book From Ives to Adams. American Music of the 20th Century.
