Special program of the "Contemporary Art in the Traditional Museum" Festival

Project by Tellervo Kalleinen (Finland) and Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen (Germany-Finland)

Artists Tellervo Kalleinen and Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen invited the people of St.Petersburg to complain about anything they want. For one week the complainers were rehearsing for the performance together with artists and composers who were invited to help them create an artistic interpretation of their complaints - an expressive choir song. The song was written by the “Composer” Art Group (Petr Pospelov, Alexander Manotskov). Its performance was conducted by Alexander Manotskov at various venues during the opening ceremony of the "Contemporary Art in the Traditional Museum" Festival.

The “Complaints Choir” performances have already taken place in Birmingham, Helsinki and Wilhelmsburg (Hamburg), and now the project has come to St. Petersburg.

Complaints vary in scale and character - from distresses of everyday life up to the anxieties about global challenges. The people of Birmingham complained about bus-drivers being rude and about people on the street who would stop in the middle of the sidewalk blocking your way when you're in a hurry.  Helsinki's "favorites" were the cell phones that won't stop ringing, high prices and low wages for female workers. In Wilhelmsburg - a far off suburb of Hamburg - the complaints were predominantly political.
