Concert Finale of the Third Annual Composers Competition “Step to the Left”

Step to the Left
Annual competition for young composers from Russia and former CIS countries, it is the only one open contest for young composers in St Petersburg. The contest is aimed to support innovations in the field of contemporary music and to encourage authors to compose for ensembles.
  
Composers under 35 are allowed to take part in the competition. They are asked to apply with the works composed for an ensemble that were neither published nor recorded commercially on CDs and DVDs. Compositions having awards from other composer competitions are not applicable.
Compositions of the finalists of the “Step to the Left” contest are performed in a public concert by the PRO ARTE eNsemble (St Petersburg ensemble of contemporary music).
  
48 composers aged 16 to 29 took part in the “Step to the Left” competition in 2008 – 2010, they came from St Petersburg, Moscow, Perm, Kazan, Saratov, Rostov-on-Don, Omsk, Makhachkala, Syktyvkar, Taganrog, Ulan-Ude, Kiev and other cities.
At the concert finale on the 11th of February 2010 PRO ARTE eNsemble conducted by Fyodor Lednev will perform compositions by the following young composers:

Vassily Strugatsky (b. 1987, Moscow)
Alexander Khubeev (b. 1986, Perm/Moscow)
Alexander Chernyshkov (b. 1983, Omsk/Vienna)
