Space and Rocket Engineering Museum named after V. Gloushko
(Branch of the Museum of St. Petersburg History)
 
The Museum is located in the Ioannovsky Ravelin of Peter and Paull Fortress – additional defense works erected in the early 18th century. In 1932-1933 Ravelin housed machine shops, firing test-benches and designers’ offices of the first national agency that developed rocket engines and rockets – Gas Dynamics Lab. In 1973 the Lab was turned into a museum.
The museum covers the history of the Gas Dynamics Laboratory and demonstrates developments in national rocket engineering and space science. In one of the rooms visitors can see portraits of the scientists who worked in rocket engineering and view samples of their work.
The Museum presents models of the rocket equipment, unique documents, authentic space vehicle "Soyuz-16", engines from Vostok, Soyuz and Proton rockets, as well as space suits, space food, flight uniform. Visitors can also watch films about history of space exploration.
