Consonances of the 20th century
September 2001 - December 2005
Art Director and curator of the programme is Alexander Goribol
A series of concerts in the Maly (Smaller) Hall of the Saint Peteresburg Philharmonic presents music of the 20th century composers and contemporary authors whose musical pieces follow the tradition of consonance, i.e. harmony. Elegant programmes with a style of their own combine works by adherents of academic tradition and the newest music, classical concert performance and forms of performance that are entirely unexpected for the philarmonic stage. The best young and middle-aged musicians are invited to take part in the concerts.
Since 2003 each concert of the Consonances includes a piece ordered by the Pro Arte Institute.
Some publications of the Pro Arte Institute were timed for the programmes of the cycle: Letters of Schoenberg (for the concert entitled Arnold Schoenberg and Adressees) and Benjamin Britten CD (for the concert In Honour of Benjamin Britten).
