Events Section

 The PRO ARTE Foundation holds about 250 events annually. Those include lectures, master classes, exhibitions, concerts and conferences at PRP ARTE premises and in Peter and Paul Fortress, but also in other museums, galleries and concert halls in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Krasnoyarsk, Pertrozavodsk, Vyborg, and other Russian cities.

"Artwork as an Action" and "Word as an Action": Natalya Fedorova's lectures and workshop on media art and media poetry

How comes that media or digital art form a special kind of art activity and can be called procedural art, or art in action? How does the appearance of computers brings up new algorithmic and multimedia opportunities for creation of the poetry connected with modern communicative technologies? Natalya Fedorova's courses “Artwork as an Action” – was devoted to these and other questions: an introduction talk about media art (on November 7) and "Word as an Action” outline lecture about media poetry (on November 10). On November 14, students of the School for Young Artists program participated in Natalya Fedorova's workshop, where they discussed properties and types of generative texts and created their own generative poem on the basis of existing code.

Natalya Fedorova is a media poet, the researcher of verbal media art and the curator of 101 Media poetry festival, Professor of the Department of liberal arts at the St.Petersburg State University, co-founder of the media poetic group "Machine Libertine" (Natalya Fedorova / Taras Mashtalir). The premiere of Noor brain opera (the author of the libretto) took place within ISEA 2016 in Hong Kong. Audio and video of the poem published in TextSound, Rattapallax, LIT magazine, Ill-Tempered Rubyist, räume für notizen | rooms for notes, "Black holes are the letters" were shown at international bienniales and festivals: ISEA 2016, the ELO 2015 6 Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art, Manifesta 10, the REVERSE, MIFF, E-Poetry, LUMEN EX, Interrupt II, VideoBardo, Liberated Words., Tarp and others.  PhD thesis on "hypertextual form and function of their units in the Russian literature of the 20th - beginning of the 21st century" (University named after AI Hertzen). In 2011-2012 she was an intern (postdoctorate) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) for the Fulbright program. In 2013 - an intern (postdoctorate) at the University of Bergen (Norway), where she worked on a collection of Russian electronic literature.

The “School for Young Artists” educational program was created by the St Petersburg PRO ARTE Foundation in 1999. The NCCA North-Western Branch joined the program in 2012. Supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Mikhail Prokhorov Foundation.
